Storage Tanks – Corrosion Testing
Storage tanks can be susceptible to a high level of corrosion both from their contents and from the outside environment. Typical storage tank testing applications are:
- Fuel depot tanks
- Commercial and domestic LPG tanks
- Propane gas cylinders
- Air cylinders for divers
- Water storage tanks
- Effluent tanks
- Pressure vessels.
Using the Multiple-Echo technique which is available on all Cygnus thickness gauges, readings on tanks can be taken ignoring coatings and corrosion, providing a reading of just the remaining metal thickness.
If the survey is being conducted using rope access then the Cygnus 2 or Cygnus 2 PLUS are ideal.
If the atmosphere is potentially explosive using a Cygnus 1 Intrinsically Safe gauge means there is no need for a hot work permit.
The Cygnus 6 PLUS offers the ability to input templates, perfect for taking logging measurements on symmetrical storage tanks. This helps to ensure thickness readings are taken in a methodical manner, with the data is easily transferred to a computer or spreadsheet for reporting.
